Points in Both races at Thruxton
PRESS RELEASE
DAN DRAYTON RACING
Date: 6th August Release Date: Immediate
Points for Drayton in both the Sprint and the Feature race, as he welcomes new Sponsor TW Metals
Daniel headed to Cadwell Park earlier in the week, in advance of round 7 of BSB; where he tested the NP motorcycles ZX6. He was joined by his team mate Ben Godfrey as they both put the bikes through their paces
A very successful test ended with a high speed departure from the bike at the end of the second day for Dan. He was cleared of any bony injury by the medical staff in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A day later he headed to round 7 of the British Superbike Series, he would be sponsored by TW Metals and Locate supplies, with LR Designs ensuring these two companies could be represented well at this round
Friday morning free practice and Dan straight away managed to set a personal best time, but he was finding riding uncomfortable. The medical staff made sure he had the best treatment, and to ensure his hip was rested adequately he was requested to be non weight bearing on his right leg and supplied with crutches for the weekend. Later in the day it was free practice two, and Dan would improve on his times once again.
On Saturday morning the team were looking to improve the set up ahead of his qualifying session, the heat in the track was adversely affecting grip for most riders at an already abrasive track. The set up was better and Dan improved his lap time again but he was still not in the position he wanted, starting 23rd on the grid.
Saturday afternoon was the Sprint race, and it saw a track temperatures of 40 degrees, Dan had some really good battles on the fastest circuit in the country, and once again improved his lap time by another half second, gaining places and taking two valuable points finishing 14th in class
For Sundays feature race the track temperature had soared to 46 degrees, and eighteen hot laps lie ahead for the riders. Dan started the race in 19th position and very early in the race started to gain places, passing four riders in the initial laps. He was feeling good on the bike and had the pace to push harder, but in the final few laps a technical issue occurred and he struggled to maintain his speed. The race ended prematurely with a red flag incident, but Dan would still hang on to a points finish.
Taking points from both races at Thruxton was a good result, though like any rider Dan still wanted more.
Dan comments:
“ I have prepared well this season, and had fantastic support from friends and family; so I am frustrated by my results. I want to be running in the top ten and will keep working hard to move closer to a podium finish”
